‘The Wizard of Oz’ maze

“The Wizard of Oz,” one of the most-viewed films in history, is commemorated in the annual cornfield maze laid out at the Nelson Farm, rural Litchfield. The farm’s 18th annual Pumpkin Patch Festival runs for five consecutive weekends Sept. 29-Oct. 28, and MEA Oct. 18-19. Since 1990, Nelson Farm on the shores of Youngstrom Lake, has drawn thousands of people from around the state. The cornfield maze, designed with a different theme each year, is one of the attractions. “The Wizard of Oz” play will also be performed at 3 p.m. each day of the Pumpkin Patch Festival by local theatrical talent. Other activities at the farm include: swinging in the hayloft, cruising down a 40-foot slide, panning for marbles, playing in a tree fort, petting and playing with small farm animals, playing farm miniature golf and corn cob golf, soap box derby races and farm frisbee golf. And, of course, there will be pumpkins.  Cost for a full day of fun on the farm is $6.50 per person, which includes the corn maze. There are also season passes available for $12 and discounts are available for groups of 25 people or more.
