Theft leaves students feeling sad, disappointed

I was saddened this morning (Tuesday, June 22) when I arrived at school to find that someone had stolen plants from the Kimball Elementary School garden. Three classes of 30 students that I teach, along with myself, two other adults, and four high school students have been planting the garden the last three weeks. The students have worked hard preparing the garden, designing, weeding, planting and watering. The major work was complete and we were excited to watch it grow. Our next job was to maintain the garden by weeding and watering. The students were proud of their beautiful garden. Some of the words that came to their minds this morning were terrible, horrible, angry, sad, mad, unbelievable and great disappointment. They feel sad for the person who would steal from an elementary school garden. This was not vandalism, this was theft. They dug the plants out and left about 16 empty holes. They also took a large, beautiful pink geranium hanging plant. This evidently took place on at least two different occasions. It is my understanding that other places in town have had plants stolen. This garden was created for the Kimball community to enjoy. Please help by reporting any tampering that you notice to the police. Thank you. Deb Schmidt and students
