Theft of a deer
Sunday, Nov. 9, at about 1:20 p.m. a group of hunters from Millwood Twp. reported the theft of a deer carcass that had been hanging in a tree at a residence. The group had several deer carcasses hanging in a tree and left the residence for a short time, when they returned, one of the deer was missing. Some of the members of the group recalled seeing a silver passenger car leaving the area with a small buck tied on the top. The hunters drove in the direction the car was last seen and found it with the deer on top. The hunter that shot the deer had tied a colored latex glove on one of the deer?Äôs legs and a colored latex glove was visible on the deer on top of the car.
The hunters called 911 to report the theft to the Stearns County Sheriff?Äôs Office. The vehicle was in Morrison County and Stearns
County deputies were able to intercept the silver car in the city of Upsala. The driver of the silver car admitted that he had been hunting and wasn?Äôt successful so when he saw the deer hanging from the tree he decided to cut one down and take it.
The deer was returned to the holder of the deer tag. The 34-year-old man from Rice was released pending theft and other charges. His name will not be released until charges are filed.
