Time to put away the golf clubs

Weather: Showers and even a few thunderstorms rumbled across the state of Minnesota and the Upper Midwest to start off the work and school week.

Some of the heaviest rain was expected to fall across parts of southern Minnesota; but much of central, west central, and even northern Minnesota had the potential of seeing an inch of rain or more by the time the area of low pressure moves out of the area by Wednesday.

On the heels of that system, another fast moving system, or shortwave, will drop out of Canada Wednesday night into Thursday and could bring some light snow to the state of Minnesota. Snowfall amounts look to be light at this stage.

The coldest air of the season is expected to arrive on the backside of this system as the area will struggle to make it out of the upper 20s for daytime high temperatures by Friday. Overnight low temperatures will fall into the upper teens and lower 20s by Friday and Saturday morning.

We will return to more seasonal temperatures by Sunday as high temps are expected to reach the mid 30s. Average high temperatures this time of the year are generally in the low to mid 30s across the region.

By the way, the 14 Day Outlook calls for below normal temperatures with above normal precipitation. It looks like the string of nice weather that we have been spoiled by recently will finally lose its hold on the area.

I guess it is time to finally put away the golf clubs and get out the winter coats, hats, and gloves!

Have a great rest of the week!

Weather history: On this date in 1979 records show that a ?Äúheat wave continues in Southwest Minnesota?Äù as the temperature hit 70 degrees at Browns Valley. The rest of Greater Minnesota also experienced temperatures unseasonably warm.

Weather fact: Indian Summer is generally referred to as ?Äúweather conditions that are sunny and clear with above normal temperatures, occurring late-September to mid-November.?Äù It is usually found after a killing frost.
