The Cubs found it tough sledding last week, dropping a thriller to B-B-E, 47-44, Tuesday, Jan. 26, and losing to Pierz, 51-42, Friday, Jan. 29.
(BBE Game) Kimball started out shooting well and grabbed an early lead. However, the Jags went on a 16-3 run to take the lead back and were ahead by six at the break (28-22). BBE increased its lead in the second half and led by as much
as 13 at one point. Continuing to chip away, the Cubs trailed 45-44 with just over a minute remaining. Following a couple of trade-off turnovers, Kimball was forced to foul. The Jaguars hit their free-throws and sealed the victory. ?ÄúWe never gave up right until the end in a very difficult place to play,?Äù said Coach Jay Klein. Game Scoring: Darius Westrich 14; Del Guerrero 9; Hayden Gagnon 7; Drew Gustafson 3; Weston Hine 5; Michael Hoffmann 6.
(Pierz Game) Defense kept the Cubs in the game, especially in the opening half, when they trailed by just a couple of buckets, 20-16. In the second half Kimball cut the lead to two points with about nine minutes remaining. However, their next five possessions resulted in three turnovers and two missed shots. Pierz converted on the other end to widen the margin and ultimately take the win. ?ÄúThis was a much better effort than the first time we played when we lost by 28 points,?Äù Coach Klein said. Stats: Guerrero 12 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals; Darius Westrich 6 points, 4 assists; Gustafson 6 points, 2 steals.
