EV-W-K Pole Vaulter going to State Meet
The Section 5A Track and Field Meet was held Wednesday May 27 at St. Johns University. The EV-W-K athletes had a very good day. The girls’ placed seventh out of 24 teams and the boys’ 20th out of 24 teams.
Individual results:
The girls’ got off to a fast start when the 4×800-meter relay team of Kelsey Vigoren, Molly Hesse, Tanya Maciejewski and Justine Hilsgen broke a school record by 10 seconds, placing second with a time of 9:59.03.
In the boys’ 100-meter dash, Ryan McCann placed fourth with a time of 11:49, only.01 out of first place.
The girls’ 4×200-meter relay team of Morgan Meyer, Molly Hesse, Rachel Arnold and Samantha Stuve took third place with a time of 1:49.72, a new school record. This was also a close race in which 1.12 seconds separated the top 3 teams.
The boys’ 4×200-meter team of Luke Schiefelbein, Jake Ruhland, Travis Erickson and Ryan McCann took sixth place with a time of 1:36.48.
Danny Lochen placed 11th in the boys’ pole vault with a vault of 9 feet 8 inches.
Justine Hilsgen placed seventh in the girls’ 1600-meter run with a time of 5:32.59.
Rachel Arnold placed fourth in the girls’ 400-meter dash with a time of 61:54.
Alex Meis ran a personal best in the 400-meter dash placing ninth with a time of 53.93.
Samatha Stuve place 13th in the girls’ 200-meter dash with a time of 28.64.
Travis Erickson placed 12th in the boys’ 200-meter dash with a time of 24.59.
The girls’ 4×400-meter relay had a very exciting race and it was so close up to the last 1/2 stride. The EV-W- K team of Kelsey Vigoren, Molly Hesse, Justine Hilsgen and Rachel Arnold took second place, Albany first. EV-W-K finished with a time of 10:10.59, Albany 10:10.15.
Justine Hilsgen place 10th in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet 8 inches.
Rachel Arnold place 15th in the triple jump with a jump of 27 feet 5 3/4 inches.
Sarah Messer had a good day in the shot put having a personal best throw of 32 feet 3 3/4 inches.
Shawny Kramer placed ninth in the discus throw with a throw of 99 feet 1 inch.
Nicole Klein competed in the pole vault.
Macki Nelson took first place in the pole vault with a personal best vault of 9 feet 7 inches. Macki will be moving to the state meet and competing at 3 p.m. June 6. The State Meet will be held at Hamline University in St. Paul. The Meet starts Friday, June 5, and finishes up June 6. The first- and second-place winners and event qualifiers in the individual events, and the first place and event-qualifing relay teams move on to the state meet from the sections.
