Trollhaugen edges Powder Ridge for top honors

A total of 226 skiers from Buck Hill, Coffee Mill, Trollhaugen and Powder Ridge competed for individual and team honors on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Powder Ridge. Powder Ridge skiers collected 11 of 20 first-place spots and 29 top-five finishes scoring 103 points. Unfortunately, that wasn’t quite enough to keep the team title away from the larger Trollhaugen team finishing with 116 points. Buck Hill finished a distant third with 78 points, and Coffee Mill placed fourth with only 3 points. First-place competitors included Molly Magnuson (7), Aaron Longtin (8), David Elmquist (9), Seth Elmquist (11), Molly Gaetz (12), Eric Elmquist (12), Joe Powell (13), Megan Bacharach (14), Kimberly Bacharach (15), and Amy Elmquist (16+). Placing second were Whitney Hughs (7), Maggie Kippley (9), Jacob Powell (9), Cody Ling (11), Riley Rice (12), Chris Longtin (13) and Brett Herges (14). Third-place awards went to Matt Haws (7), Rachel Post (10), Jon Haws (10), Alex Fuller (12), Laura Schleichert (12) and Kelsey Schleichert (13). Scoring team points in fifth place were Rachel Arnold (8), Leah Magnuson (11), Matt Wiest (14), Krista Halonen (15) and Adam Herges (15). In sixth place were Warren Ollinger (9), Ben Ferkinhoff (12), Tammy Kippley (13), Jamie Scholer (13) and Katie Muggli (16+). Seventh place went to Cole Minkel (9), Joe Muggli (13), Patrick Gaetz (14) Colin Marrer (15), Megan Trout (16+) and Nick Byram (16+). Eighth place went to Ben Minkel (<7), Richie Steiger (10), Keith Berg (11), Dan Groebner (14), Daren Goebel (15) and Jason Larson (16+). Ninth place was taken by Mady Stenson (7), Mike Hilbert (7), Joe Omann (10), Jake Byram (12), Margo Game (13) and Josh Kunkel (15). In tenth place were Parker Fuchs (8), John Kandels (10), Laura Arnold (13) and John Smith (16+). Improving their times from first to second runs included Jake Held (7), Annie Magnuson (9), James Halonen (11), Kam Kantor (11), Runyon Gaetz (12), Eric Magnuson (13), Nate Peterson (14) and Matt Spanier (15). The team will compete next at the State Championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Wild Mountain.
