Brooks Marquardt pitched nine complete innings and Nate Turck doubled home two runs in the sixth inning to take the Express to a 4-0 victory over the Eden Valley Hawks in CVL playoff action Sunday, July 25. The win at Kimball Veterans Memorial Field qualifies the Express for Region 10C play. The Express led 1-0 through five innings, and then tallied three in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run double by Turck and an RBI triple by Brooks Marquardt. Brooks had a shut-out performance as he struck-out five to improve his record to 5-1 for the season. Turck led the Express offensively 1-3, with a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Mike Arnold was 2-3 with an RBI, and Brooks Marquardt was 1-3 with a triple, one run scored and an RBI. The victory gives the Express a chance at back-to-back state tournament appearances. They begin region play Friday, Aug. 6, in Watkins. Before region 10C play gets underway, the Express will play Saturday, July 30, in a seeding game to decide the number one and two seeds in the CVL South. They will play the winner of the Wednesday, July 28, match-up between Luxemburg and Eden Valley. The Express’ opponent will have to beat them twice to take the number one seed away from Kimball.
