December is all about cold and snow and holiday preparations. We’re busy at the library with Christmas Elves, book discussions and Movies to the Big Screen. In the midst of all that, please remember those less fortunate. And as a New Year’s resolution, come in to the library and sign up to volunteer. It’s guaranteed to make you feel better.
Storytime Stars is celebrating the holidays with a Christmas Elves theme. Bring your toddlers to the library 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, for a fun-filled story time. For more information, call the library at (320) 453-4344.
The EVAL Book Club meets 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the library. The book to be discussed is “The Music Shop” by Rachel Joyce. Take a much-needed break from all those holiday preparations and enjoy a good book discussion. Everyone is welcome, so please stop in.
Movies on the Big Screen will have two showings in December. Join us at 6 p.m. Friday,
Dec. 7, in the Community Center to see “The Star,” where a small but brave donkey named Bo yearns for a life beyond his daily grind. It’s rated PG. 6 p.m. Friday,
Dec. 28, it’s the rollicking “Mamma Mia 2” where Sophie prepares for the grand reopening of the Hotel Bella Donna as she learns more about her mother’s past. Rated PG-13, it will be shown in the Community Center.
For the new year look for these gems on the big screen:
“Book Club,” “Small Foot,” “Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom,” “How to Train Your Dragon 3,” “Norm of the North,” and “Boss Baby.” Watch our Facebook page and website for show dates. Don’t forget to join our “mustache your thoughts” adult reading promotion. Stop in the library to sign on and pick up your EVAL book bag.
Please remember that one in six Minnesota children struggle with hunger. Undernourished children score much lower in vocabulary, reading comprehension, math, and general knowledge. To help our community alleviate this problem, donate to the Eden Valley Food Shelf. Canned meats and shelf-stable items along with easy to prepare meals are always welcome. However, during the holidays donating items like canned pumpkin, cranberry sauce and stuffing mix will help families enjoy a holiday meal. The library is a drop-off site for donations. So please give what you can.
Until next month, we’ll see you at the library.
