Update on Bauerly Bros. gravel pit near Kimb all

·

Jean Doran Matua, EditorOn Tuesday, March 19, the Stearns County Board of Commissioners met in a closed session. They decided to revoke the requirement that Bauerly Bros. obtain an EIS (environmental impact statement) before proceeding with plans to begin mining gravel just east of Kimball.

Some months ago, an EAW (environmental assessment worksheet) was completed on the property. In a move welcomed by neighbors of the site, the Board of Commissioners voted to require the more stringent EIS. Bauerly appealed the requirement, stating that they would withdraw their appeal if the Board would revoke the EIS requirement.

On March 19, the Board did just that. They moved to accept the EAW, with substantial amendments that address noise and pollution issues raised.

The next step is for the Stearns County Planning Commission to meet. They will set the stipulations on a use permit for Bauerly’s mining operations on the property.
