There are two reasons why Sunday, June 6, should be marked on your calendar: o It’s visitor appreciation day at Lake Maria State Park, and o It’s Open House Day at all state parks. This means you get in free. As a highlight of visitor appreciation day, one of the three camper cabins at the park will be open for inspection from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Signs will direct individuals and families to parking and the short hike to the cabin. Literature will be available at the cabin, and a volunteer will greet visitors and answer questions. Cake and beverages will be served at the park’s interpretive center, children can play nature bingo for prizes, and live turtles will be on display. There will also be a drawing for prizes. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the park’s 14 miles of hiking trails. Canoe and boat rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis at a cost of $2 per hour (four hour minimum). For more information call the park office at (763) 878-2325.
