Vote yes for student safety at Eden Valley Elementary

As an EV-W graduate, parent, and teacher, I know firsthand what an exceptional school district Eden Valley-Watkins is. Our school is essential to keep our communities thriving and is in need of repairs and updates. The November 6 referendum will focus on safety and maintenance.

Student safety at the Eden Valley Elementary will be a top priority with a redesign of the parking lot. Dropping and picking up children is dangerous, an accident waiting to happen. The referendum will designate separate locations for bus and parent parking.

In addition the referendum will create safe and secure entrances at both the Watkins and Eden Valley Elementary Schools. Voters, it is important to show that our students and their safety are valued.

As our buildings age, maintenance is needed. The referendum will provide replacement of plumbing pipe at the EV-W High School and HVAC replacement and cooling for the school buildings. The school facilities are used year round, staff and students do their best by using fans and dimming the lights but still the temperatures rise. Not only is heat an issue, uneven temperatures throughout the building provide an additional challenge.

I am proud to be a graduate and a parent of future graduates. EV-W is an exceptional school with great students, parents, staff, and community members. Whether you have child, grandchild, niece or nephew in the EV-W school district, we cannot be the generation that lets our school facilities fall apart. I urge you to vote “yes” on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
