Walter Bond speaks at awards program

·

Former Minn. Gopher and Dallas Mavericks basketball player spoke at the KAHS awards banquet on Friday night, April 25. Bond is now a motivational speaker. He brought several “gems” to Kimball. o “Confidence is just arrogance under control.” Leaders should make the people under them believe they’re better than what they really are. o “The biggest mistake of my life was getting comfortable in a place I didn’t want to be.” If you want to make more money, have a better marriage, or have children with more potential – don’t get comfortable with mediocrity. o When you have great vision, tell everyone around you. That way, when you fatigue, they’ll remind you and energize you. o “I learned early on, when it seems like it’s time to give up, I dig a little deeper.” He gave the example of digging for French fries in the bottom of the bag. It only costs 39 cents to “supersize” at McDonald’s – do the same with your goals! o Integrity takes a lifetime to build, but a single lie destroys it. Bond has a serious passion to see people reach their potential. He encouraged Kimball students to not be concerned with coming from “little Kimball.” “If you become the best at what you do,” Bond said, “you will hear your name announced on the loudspeaker.” Kimball students and athletes – past, present and future – can be proud of their accomplishments. We can all encourage the younger ones to be the best they can be.
