The Watkins Chamber of Commerce met Friday, April 14, at Keek?Äôs for their annual meeting.
The primary purpose of this annual meeting is to allocate funds to donate to various causes. The 2017 decisions were:
?Ä¢ $1,000 to Clear Lake Property Owners
?Ä¢ $850 to EV-W Summer Rec.
?Ä¢ $100 to 40/8 Train
?Ä¢ $850 to Kraut ?ÄôN Wurst parade committee
?Ä¢ $500 to Watkins Pool
?Ä¢ $250 to EV-W Post-Prom party
?Ä¢ $50 for Watkins Bucks for the Senior Citizen banquet
?Ä¢ up to $500 for flowers and pots for Central Avenue
The EDA is working to get clinic and doctors in Watkins.
A Safe Routes to School grant may award money to Watkins for trails and sidewalks to school; it may help with sidewalks from Hilltop, too.
Schools superintendent Mark Messman presented information on the upcoming $12 million referrendum, and answered questions.
There is interest in holding chamber meetings more frequently than yearly.
