Watkins pool to open June 5

·

The Watkins outdoor swimming pool is scheduled to open for the season Monday, June 5. The pool will be open from 12-7 p.m., seven days a week, with the exception of July 4, and during Kraut N Wurst (first weekend of August). Swim lessons will again not be offered this year because of a serious lack of instructors everywhere. Daily swim is $5, and 10-use punch cards are $45 available at the pool. Season passes are available at City Hall: $100 for 2 family members, $150 for 3-5, each additional family member is $25 (all family members must reside in the same household). Concessions again will be available for purchase at the pool.

Watkins Clippers manager Matt Geislinger appeared at the May 11 regular meeting of the Watkins city council to update them on improvements on the ball field. The shed was scheduled to be put up this week, weather permitting. And they plan to plant 38 new trees (to replace those removed for the building).

Mike Lease addressed the council about a storm water drainage from the new apartments on Western Circle. The developer has not yet fixed the issue, despite many requests; the council will contact him to remedy the situation, whether it is to put in curbs, larger drainage culvert, or something else, to prevent storm water from the neighborhood into a neighboring yard.

The council approved the Sheriff’s Report.

They discussed pool staffing and wages, approving the list of summer staff and setting wages for the season.

Liquor license renewals were approved. An off-sale liquor license was approved (pending meeting all qualifications) effective June 1 for Kayla Hesse who has purchased Watkins Liquor Warehouse.

The next regular meeting of the Watkins city council will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 8.
