I know we have a lot of snow chances yet this season, but I think a lot of people have had some spring fever over the past several days with the warmer air that has moved in across the Upper Midwest.
There was a lot of melting going on over the weekend and for the start of this week as well. It was a great day on Sunday and Monday to do some cross-country skiing, skating at your local ice skating rink, and snowmobiling. Many people were also out for a walk in the sunshine over the weekend.
Temperatures were in the mid- to upper 20s and lower 30s on Sunday across most of the state. Despite some spots being still below zero, there was a lot of melting going on as the sun’s intensity continues to increase.
In case you missed it, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, and that means six more weeks of winter. Records show he is only about 40 percent correct, so hopefully spring is just around the corner.
Keep thinking spring.
Weather history: On this date in 1933, records show that “Artic air remains entrenched across Minnesota.” In Warroad, for example, they had a low of -55.
Weather facts: Did you know that an arctic air mass is even colder than a polar air mass? In fact, there are four air masses which include arctic, polar, tropical, and equatorial.
