We had a beautiful weekend for this time of the year. Temperatures were in the mid- to upper 30s Sunday across northern Minnesota.
In central and west central Minnesota some 40s showed up once again. This melted what little snow is left across the area. It is not looking good for parts of Minnesota seeing a “white Christmas” this year. The definition of a white Christmas is having one inch of snow or more on the ground on Christmas Day.
Temperatures will remain above average for the midweek. We could see a little bit of snow or rain on Wednesday across parts of the area. Most of the region should remain dry, however. High temperatures should reach the upper 30s and lower 40s across the region.
We will cool down for late in the week as a weak cold front arrives. This system could bring a little bit of snow late Friday and again on Sunday. It doesn’t look like these disturbances will produce much in the way of snowfall.
In case you are wondering for the week of Christmas, it looks like temperatures will be slightly below average. There is projected to be a system that has the potential for some light snow. We will have to wait and see, but stay alert if you are planning on doing any traveling, as the roads could potentially be slick at times.
Weather history: On this date in 1983 National Weather Service data shows that there were record low temperatures all across Minnesota. For example, temperatures were 28 below- to 52 below zero F across the region! Mora set a record low of 52 degrees below zero and Little Falls dropped to 42 degrees below zero! Meanwhile, Jordan, St. Cloud and Cambridge all hit 41 degrees below zero!
