In the fall of 2007, local Ducks Unlimited members each received a post card encouraging the Kimball Area to start a local DU Chapter. Three people attended that first meeting and the membership has grown ever since.
Our intention is not to just promote ducks, but clean environment for all. After our first banquet, many attendees said they were very happy to finally have a local banquet.
During the course of our development, I’ve heard some negative comments regarding DU, – 12,000,000 acres in North America have been protected and improved to be productive wildlife areas. Many of these areas also produce turkeys, pheasants, deer, and other wildlife as well. Since 1985, in Minnesota alone, 316,063 acres have been improved at a cost of nearly $37,000,000. The DU Habitat Projects map indicates projects that have been completed prior to the end of 2006.
The duck population seems to be dwindling. I for one, would miss that beautiful pair of wood ducks in our yard, picking acorns or that pair of mallards feeding in a roadside pond. How I love the sound of that flight of honkers in the moonlit sky.
