Weather: Well, spring officially arrived at 5:28 a.m. CDT on Monday! We made it as winter is now officially behind us.
However, we still had winter holding on overnight Sunday night into Monday morning as a mixture of a few rain showers along with some sleet and light snow fell across parts of central, west central and northern Minnesota. This was associated with a weak cold front and an area of low pressure.
Over the weekend, of course, we had a taste of what is to come with some very mild temperatures on both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday was the warmer day, but it was very windy across most of the state of Minnesota.
Luverne, Minn., came close to hitting 70 degrees on Sunday as they reached a very mild 69 degrees F. This was only 2 degrees shy of the record high of 71 degrees set back in 2012.
A more active weather pattern will be with us by Wednesday night into Thursday, and then again for Friday as a series of weather disturbances will arrive. We should see mainly a rain event, but some light snow is also possibly along the way early in the day and also across parts of northern Minnesota. At this stage, it looks like we should dry-out just in time for the weekend.
If you are a sky watcher, this Saturday night you should be able to locate the Big Dipper in the northeast now that spring has arrived. The Big Dipper is ?Äúpart of the constellation Ursa Major, the Greater Bear.?Äù If you ?Äúfind the Big Dipper, you can also find two Hunting Dogs seen by the ancient stargazers to be nipping at the Bear?Äôs heels!?Äù
Have a great weekend!
Weather history: On this date in 1952 records show that a snowstorm dumped some heavy snow across much of the region. The Twin Cities reported 13.2 inches of snow.
