Local student strikes a chord

Kelsey Klein of the Kimball FFA Chapter has been selected to play flute in the National FFA Band at the annual student convention Oct. 24-27 in Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Ind. The band will perform several times during the 80th National FFA Convention. National FFA Band members are nominated by their state associations and chosen from a pool of more than 250 applilcations. Klein submitted an audition tape and was one of 100 FFA members selected. The young musicians arrive in Indianapolis three days before the convention begins to rehearse. The National FFA Band is directed by Joe LaJoyce of Hastings, Mich. The National FFA organization, formerly known as Future Farmers of America, is a national youth organization of 495,046 student members – all preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture – as part of 7.242 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
