What can you put on a bit to prevent it from rusting while not being used? ?Äì Answer: Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly. There?Äôs a lot to know and this is just one example of the types of questions answered by Meeker County 4-H?Äôers as they participated in the regional Horse Bowl Contest held on Saturday, March 4th in Foley. Meeker County had one senior team and two junior teams that competed against other teams from across the state.
Junior Team Meeker 2 members include: Annika Soderlund, Zoe Eblen, Maggie Malling, and Abby Thompson. They received first place at the regional contest and will compete at state on April 8th at the Sauk Rapids – Rice Middle School. The team is coached by Michelle Soderlund.
Junior Team Meeker 3 members include: Emily Weiner, Claudia Frenchick, Dayna Terning, and Allyson Pauly. They received fifth place. The team is coached by Lynda Frenchick.
Senior Team Meeker 1 members include: Emily Porter, Ally Eblen, Bailey Woehler, and Cassidy Becker. They received second place and will compete at the state event also. They are coached by Cheryl Eblen.
Horse Bowl is an educational project, in which 4-H?Äôers learn many aspects of the horse and how to work as a team member. Participants enhance their study skills by using selected reference materials. Topics include equine anatomy, conformation, feed and nutrition, evolution, breed characteristics, reproduction, horse management, tack and equipment, styles of riding and the exhibition of horses.
This accumulated knowledge is tested in the form of a contest, similar to a ?ÄúCollege Quiz Bowl?Äù competition. At the contest, 4-H?Äôers must work together with other team members to answer questions to the best of their ability. The knowledge and skills gained in the participation of this project are carried on to all other aspects and projects of the Minnesota 4-H Horse Program, such as Horse Judging and Hippology, and possibly into the career or work field.
