Basketball program end-of-season banquet

On Sunday, April 1, the Kimball boy’s basketball program held their end-of-season banquet at the Triple R Grill & Bar. Team members received participation certificates and a number of other awards. More than 75 people attended the banquet including players, statisticians, coaches, parents and family members. The freshman team, coached by Josh Orn, included Allan Mancini, Cody Erickson, Joey Robertson, Ryan Young, Alex Mies, Jared Mackereth, Alex Fischer, Jade Hamilton and Danny Jenson. “The players improved a lot over the course of the season,” stated coach Orn. The freshmen finished with a 1-16 record.  Jeremy Kuechle, the junior varsity coach, shared some thoughts of his team’s season. Coach Kuechle talked about the players’ progress over the course of the season. He talked about some of the exciting victories and the close contests. Members of the junior varsity team in 2006-2007 included Scott Nystrom, Pat Libbesmeier, Andy Dingmann, Stephan Kurkosky, Bobby Arens, Travis Erickson, Jon Gilpatrick, Eric Nystrom, and Sam Scheeler. The final record for the junior varsity was 7-14. The varsity boy’s basketball team, coached by Jay Klein, ended their season with a tournament loss to New London-Spicer, which gave them a record of six wins and 16 losses on the year. “The year was very successful,” stated coach Klein. “The players worked extremely hard all season long and they improved a great deal.” The players on the Kimball varsity team were the following: seniors – Matt Dingmann, Jeff Hunt, Adam Magnuson, Jeff Miller and Jason Tenney; juniors – Karl Hunt, Zak Kuseske, Logan Looman, Eric Nystrom, Sam Scheeler and Scott Stenger; sophomores – Andy Dingmann; and freshmen – Scott Nystrom. Pat Hancock, Amy Massman and Nicollette Eisenreich were the team statisticians, and Michael Rose was the videographer. Players on the basketball team received a number of awards at the banquet, including local team awards, conference awards, a region award and a state award. Jeff Hunt was named Academic All-State Honorable Mention. Adam Magnuson was named to the KDUZ/KARP All-Area Team. Adam Magnuson was named first team All-Conference in the Central Minnesota Conference. Jeff Hunt was named second team All-Conference. Academic All-Conference selections were Jeff Hunt, Matt Dingmann, Jeff Miller, Sam Scheeler and Andy Dingmann. Ten players received basketball letters this season: Matt Dingmann, Jeff Hunt, Adam Magnuson, Jeff Miller, Jason Tenney, Karl Hunt, Zak Kuseske, Logan Looman, Scott Stenger and Scott Nystrom. Other team awards included: Defensive Player of the Year – Karl Hunt, Offensive Player of the Year – Adam Magnuson, Most Improved Player – Scott Nystrom, Hustle Award – Jason Tenney, Practice Player of the Year – Matt Dingmann, and the Team Player Award – Stephan Kurkosky. Finally, Coach Klein thanked parents and players for all of their hard work during the season. He also thanked everyone that supported the Kimball boy’s basketball program this year. Coach Jay Klein
