Baylie Winter hit two home runs and drove in four to help the Cubs’ softball team respond from its first loss of the season with a 15-0 victory over Royalton via the 15-run rule in four innings at home on May 6. Winter homered in the first and third innings.
The Cubs jumped out to the lead in the first inning after Mazie Jurek hit an RBI single, Claire Maus recorded a two-run -double, an error scored one run, Ella Johnson hit an RBI single, and Winter blasted a two-run home run to left field.
In the bottom of the second, the Cubs scored two runs on a Sami Winter home run to center field.
The Cubs scored one run in the third on Baylie Winter’s second home run of the game, a solo shot to left field.
In the fourth inning, the Cubs added five more runs on three hits. Maus hit a solo home run to left field, Riley Fischer recorded an RBI single, Baylie Winter and Claire Hemmesch drew RBI walks, and Jurek hit an RBI single.
Johnson earned the win for the Cubs. The hurler gave up three hits over four innings, striking out six and walking two.
For the game, the Cubs accumulated 12 hits. Maus went three-for-three at the plate to lead the Cubs in hits. Baylie Winter, Claire Honer, and Jurek each collected two hits. As a team, the Cubs stole four bases, and turned one double play in the win.
