The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all in attendance. The Meeting was called to order by chair Kersten at 6:33 p.m. with the superintendent, principals, and all board members present. Motion by Kuechle, seconded by Stenger, to approve the agenda as amended. Unanimously Carried (UC) Motion by Gillman, seconded by Kuechle, to approve payment of the listed bills in the amount of $148,953.91 of which $24,582.93 was construction-related costs. Motion by Laabs, seconded by Kuechle, to approve the consent agenda. UC. The consent agenda included: o Approve minutes of January 23, 2003, Regular Board Meeting o Approve minutes of February 5, 2003, Special Board Meeting o Acknowledge receipt of donation from Kimball Wrestling Booster/Alumni Club ($352) and Kimball Youth Wrestling ($352) for two new scales for wrestling program o Approve long-term sub contract with Betty Vossen o Approve use of facilities for Relay For Life to be held June 6 and 7, 2003 The treasurer’s report for January was reviewed. Upon recommendation from the Curriculum Review Committee, motion by Laabs, seconded by Kuechle, to revise the Curriculum Review cycle to delay the updating of math curriculum and texts until next year so that any changes made in the Minnesota Standards requirements could be better accommodated. UC After reviewing the proposed revised budget for 2002-2003, Motion by Gillman, seconded by Laabs, to approve the following budget amounts. UC Motion by Kuechle, seconded by VanVleet, to approve the Aid Anticipation Certificate as prepared by Evensen Dodge. UC Motion by Gillman, seconded by Laabs, to approve payment of Errors & Omissions Insurance premium for $3,161.25. UC Celebration of successes of students and staff included: Jenna Stenger, Tammy Kuechle, Erin Heath, Travis Winkelman, Alanna Bowman and Cole Loewen participating in the SCSU Honor Band on February 8 did an excellent job representing Kimball Area High School. February students of the month: Ashley Caird, Al Holker, Cole Schindele, Jon Miller, Chris Hunt, Angie Garding, Kim Capes, Tanya Remer, Chelsea Ahrens, Jeremy Flickinger, Luke Deutsch, Jen Schefers, Jason Tenney, Mara Rippentrop, Patrick Hancock, Jeff Hunt, Allison Konz, Amber Froehling, Haru Ryan, Jill Messer and Seth Lovitz. The upcoming March students of the month: Josh Orn, McCade Libby, Amber Austed, Cody Dobson, Steven Landwehr, Jamie Hanson, Janelle Kuechle, Jessica Mancini, Nick Strodtman, Logan Bever, Brit Rosha, Heather Ryan, Anthony Laabs, Brianna Rosenow, Darlys Foley, Courtney Colwill. Unaka Pugh to be commended for her work with the Sno Daze activities being held this week. National FFA Week is February 16-22 with various activities taking place. The T.A.G. parent group gave Valentine’s treats to all high school staff. The Spelling Bee was held on February 10; seventh-grader Tineya Lammerson won first place after battling 11 rounds against runner-up Andrea Woodford, fifth grade. The wrestlers did an excellent job at the Section 5A Team Finals on the 14th, falling short by two points to the number-one seed team. The individual wrestling finals are being held this week with the state tournament to be held the 27th, 28th and March 1st. Ms. Imholte reported on parent-teacher conferences to be held on the 26th from 5-7 p.m. and on March 5 from 4-6 p.m. Sno Daze Coronation is being moved from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday to accommodate court members who are at other athletic activities that evening. March 12 is career day for students grades 7-12. T.A.G. will be sponsoring a speaker on the subject of bullying on April 10. Plans are being made for a speaker to come in on March 20 to speak on date violence. Registration for classes will be coming up soon. This is somewhat delayed because of all of the changes at the state level. A survey will be done later this spring on the effectiveness of homerooms. A modified schedule was presented to the site team which allowed high school students to attend school from 8:30-3:00 p.m., still getting the number of required minutes in each day. This modified schedule would also allow for department meetings to be held for a longer length of time in the morning. The attendance and discipline policies will be looked into in March and April. Mr. Clark reported on parent-teacher conferences being held on the 20th and 25th. March 3 is the wrap up celebration of “I Love to Read Month.” The Title I Parental Involvement Policy will be brought to the March 20 meeting for its first reading. 7:30 Kuechle and Stenger were excused to attend Parent’s Night at the Girls’ Basketball Game. Dr. Thielman reviewed Gov. Pawlenty’s recent proposal. The Lion’s Club is holding its semi-annual fish fry on February 21. Committee Reports included Transportation – Thielman, Budget – Thielman, Curriculum Advisory – Thielman, Benton-Stearns – Gillman. Stenger returned at 7:48. Communications included a meeting invitation from the Central Coalition of Concerned Educators, Health Insurance Informational Dinner Meeting/ Workshop, and the House and Senate Loggers.
