St. John’s VBS mission project The St. John’s Lutheran Church Vacation Bible School program sponsored a local mission project this summer. The church decided to give support to the local food shelf. To make the project more fun for the kids, each night was designated with a specific child’s favorite food. For example, Monday was macaroni and cheese night and Tuesday was bedtime snacks. The kids took a big interested in the mission project and collected about 100 pounds of food and $7.71 in cash. St. John’s is proud of the children who participated and the food shelf is grateful for the donation. For bereaved parents Dr. Robert R. Thompson, author of “Remembering: The Death of a Child” is the featured speaker at the West Central Minnesota Chapter of The Compassionate Friends. The meeting is 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Fellowship Hall of Vinje Lutheran Church, 1107 Willmar Ave. S.W. in Willmar. Thompson’s book describes the feelings and experiences, and the grief journey he and his wife Martha have taken since the death of their son Paul 14 years ago.
