This past weekend we saw two communities come together to support the cross country team that involved runners from both Kimball and Eden Valley-Watkins. While the schools have a healthy rivalry with each other in most sports, they combine efforts in six sports: girls cross country, boys cross country, girls track, boys track, girls golf and boys golf.
It was so fun to watch the interaction of teammates as the girls cross country team was honored in pep fests at both schools. Communities came together to send off the girls with escorts from Eden Valley, Watkins and Kimball fire departments. The pep fests were so energetic, sending the girls to four schools to high five and cheers from students cheering for each other. Schools our size are not able to produce a quality team without the help of each other. That is why combining in these activities is so important.
The credit of this quality program should go to coaches Holly Hanson and Terry Nelson. The coaches have worked hard to create a team atmosphere that is outstanding. Creating a great team bond can be difficult with one community involved, much less two.
Having the EV-W-K girls cross country team win conference and go to state tournament was an outstanding achievement. Thank you to coaches, communities and athletes for making this event happen!
