Colder weather will return to Upper Midwest

·

Weather: Temperatures certainly have been mild of late. Temperatures on Monday climbed into the mid to upper 30s across much of central and west central Minnesota.

This was associated with a warm front that brought very mild air to the much of the state. These temperatures were 15-20 degrees above average.

In contrast, much of northern and eastern Minnesota were under a winter weather advisory for Monday into Monday evening. This snow was due to an Alberta Clipper that brought snow across northern Minnesota. Anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of snow was common across that part of the state.

On the backside of this system, colder weather will return to the Upper Midwest. A northwesterly flow will pull in the colder air for the midweek. By Thursday, parts of the area could struggle to make it out of the single digits for highs. Overnight low temperatures could fall below zero.

Thankfully, it will be short-lived and we should be back into the 20s for daytime high temperatures. We could also seen some light snow, however, on Saturday.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

Weather history: It was on this date in 1893 that records show that the temperature dropped ?Äú40 degrees in five hours during a blizzard at Park Rapids.?Äù

Weather fact: Traveling by car or foot is highly discouraged during blizzard conditions. Experts say doing so increases the ?Äúchance of hypothermia, accident and death.?Äù
