Coleman to host tax relief summit in St. Cloud

·

Senator Norm Coleman will be at the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce Friday, April 23, to listen to business leaders and individuals discuss how federal tax policy affects their companies, hiring and the local economy, during a panel discussion on tax relief. “Input from community and business leaders is imperative to helping me do my job,” Coleman said. “I can think of no better way to support tax relief in Minnesota than by discussing these issues directly with them.” Coleman will host the two-hour session to hear business leaders and individuals talk about specific tax policies and their implications. The session will touch on the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), “stealth tax,” Marriage Tax Penalty, Child Tax Credit, 10 percent Income Tax Bracket and Estate Tax, among other issues. As legislators face the Fiscal Year 2005 budget in Congress and the extension of important tax relief policies, Sen. Coleman will listen to the issues to determine how federal participation can enhance tax relief efforts. Representatives from the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service and Small Business Administration will also be present. “Pundits and financial advisors have a lot to say on tax policy, but I believe the most valuable perspective comes from the working families and small businesses that hurt the most when taxes are too high,” Coleman said. This discussion will be from 11:10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce, 110 S. Sixth Ave. in St. Cloud, and is free and open to the public. Community and business leaders and local residents are welcome to attend. Guests will be able to take their specific concerns regarding tax policy to Sen. Coleman’s Tax Policy Advisors Andrew Siracuse and David Bowell at the event.
