County seeks weather spotters

·

Stearns County is looking for people interested in becoming weather spotters. Skywarn Weather Spotters are volunteers trained to report significant weather events such as tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, snowstorms or flooding. Since it is impossible for the National Weather Service to observe conditions all over the region, the spotters become the eyes and ears to what’s going on. They help the National Weather Service provide better weather watch and warning services to the public. The National Weather Service trains spotters. Skywarn Weather Training will take place Wednesday, April 7, in St. Cloud, and Saturday, April 10, in Albany. This training will teach attendees how to identify severe weather, and what, when and how to report it. Stearns County will hold its first organizational meeting Wednesday, March 24. The county holds monthly meetings through October. To learn more about becoming a Skywarn Spotter, or to sign up for the program, call the Stearns County Emergency Services Department at (320) 259-3940 or e-mail them at kathryn.pallansch@co.stearns.mn.us. Anyone is welcome to participate.
