DNR to hold public meeting on Cold Spring groundwater project
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will hold a public meeting to discuss a groundwater project focused on the Cold Spring area. The meeting is open to the public.
The meeting is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, in the council chambers at Cold Spring City Hall, 27 Red River Ave. South, Cold Spring. The meeting will feature an open house from 4-5 p.m. where individuals can learn about the project and talk directly to DNR staff. At 5 p.m., DNR staff will make a brief presentation and answer questions from the public.
?ÄúThere are significant concerns about how groundwater pumping is affecting Cold Spring Creek. This project will develop a groundwater model for the area. The new model will help us understand the effects of ground-
water pumping more precisely,?Äù said Tim Crocker, north district manager for the DNR.
In 2016, the Minnesota Legislature directed the DNR to develop a groundwater model for the Cold Spring area. The model will help clarify groundwater flow and the effects of current and future pumping on Cold Spring Creek. The DNR will use this new information as it works with permittees and others to manage groundwater use in the area.
