Donald “Minnow” Rasset, a lifelong resident of Annandale, died from cancer at his home Sunday, May 17, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was 65.

Donald Walter Rasset was born Sept. 23, 1954, in St. Cloud to Marvin and Grace (Olson) Rasset. He grew up in Annandale where he and his five siblings spent much of their younger years helping with the family businesses, Annandale Hatchery and Produce and later Marv’s Bait Shop. Minnow attended school in Annandale and graduated in 1973. On Sept. 8, 1979, Don was united in marriage to Sue Stumpf at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake. They made their home in rural Annandale where they raised their two children. For more than 30 years they owned and operated Truk-Mate Toppers. Don loved watching, coaching, and participating in various sporting events including baseball, softball, trapshooting, and bowling. As an avid outdoorsman, he liked to hunt, fish, trap, sit around a bonfire, and simply spend time in the great outdoors. Minnow was always up for a game of cribbage, poker or trivia. He enjoyed music, and he always looked forward to Annandale’s 4th of July celebration. As a person, Minnow always found a way to encourage you in conversation. His quick wit and “occasional” prank would usually bring a smile to the faces of those around him. Of all life’s joys, Don would put being a grandpa to his eight grandchildren at the top of the list. Minnow was a hard-working, honest, selfless, and kind man. He was a “solid rock” to his family and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his father Marve Rasset, brother Dave Rasset, niece Suzanne Rasset, and father-in-law Clay Stumpf.
He is survived by Sue, his wife of 40 years, of Annandale; children Sarah (and Aaron) Middendorf of Albany, and Steve (and Amanda) Rasset of Annandale; grandchildren Alexa, Carsen, Isaac, Blake and Hadley Middendorf, and Levi, Violet and Sylvie Rasset; mother Grace Rasset of Annandale; siblings James (and Bonna) Rasset of Ortonville, Bonnie (and Dean) Hoglund of Annandale, Denny (and Mary Lou) Rasset of Annandale, and Patty Rasset of Edina; sister-in-law Shelley Rasset of Annandale; mother-in-law Mary Stumpf of Annandale; godchildren Julie Danielson, Carrie Kronquist, Scott Mavencamp, and Shane Potter; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
