DuWayne Orbeck of Kimball died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at St. Cloud Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was 80.

A celebration of life will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Kimball American Legion Club.

DuWayne E. Orbeck was born Jan. 4, 1944, in Paynesville to John and Anita (Stern) Orbeck. He married Jean Mertens on Aug. 3, 1963, and they lived in Kimball for more than 60 years where they raised their five children. DuWayne was self-employed as a carpenter for many years. He worked at Fingerhut before his retirement. After retirement, he worked for Jerome Kuechle mowing lawns. He had many hobbies which included hunting, fishing, playing cards, and what his kids called “junk collecting” but he referred to as “treasure hunting.” He loved talking with friends and family, and he enjoyed sharing his many stories. DuWayne spent many hours helping the community of Kimball, serving on the Kimball city council, and volunteering his time to many of the community projects. DuWayne also was a founding member of the Kimball Lions Club.

DuWayne was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerome and Ralph, sister Joyce, grandson Cassidy, and great-grandson Jacob.

He is survived by his wife Jean; children Kelly (and Bill) Landowski of Sauk Rapids, Jeff (and Lynne) Orbeck of Kimball, Mark (and Jessica) Orbeck of Rice, Lisa (and Scott) Harter of Sauk Rapids, and Jody Orbeck of Kimball; grandkids Dustin (and Melissa) Orbeck, Lindsey (and Jake) Fuchs, Reana (and Joel) Bertram, Derek (and Haley) Orbeck, Tiffany (and Zach) Albers, Nathaniel (and Jana) Harter, Alex (and Tess) Harter, Christopher Harter, Kiele Harter, Makayla Epple, Cheyenne Epple, Andrew Harter, Ruby Orbeck, Robyn Orbeck, Riley Orbeck, and Kasey Harter; great-grandchildren Trent, Madison, Hunter, Nathan, Ella, Brielle, Avery, Bentley, Emmett, and Oakley; siblings Eugene Orbeck of Hayward, Wisc., Gerald (and Helen) Orbeck of Rockville, Ronald (and Lori) Orbeck of Wasilla, Alaska, Virgil (and Tina) Orbeck of Paynesville, Allen Orbeck of Centerville, Iowa, Darin (and Michelle) Orbeck of Cold Spring, Diane Coiley of Las Vegas, Nev., and Marlene (and Earl) Lahr of St. Cloud; and sister-in-law Gayla Orbeck of Paynesville.
