The Kimball Express traveled to Lake Henry and St. Martin this weekend for the 2022 Stearns County Classic. They won their first game, against New London-Spicer, and lost the next two, against the Cold Spring Rockies and the Chanhassen Red Birds.
Chanhassen
The Express faced the Chanhassen Red Birds in St. -Martin on Sunday afternoon, May 5. The Birds won the day, 3-1, over the Express.
Adam Beyer’s solo home run to right field was the highlight of the game for the Express; he also hit a pair of singles on the day.
Brandon Arnold earned the win for the Red Birds, pitching all seven innings; he allowed 1 run (Beyer’s home run in the fourth inning) on 7 hits, struck out 4 and walked 1.
Brooks Marquardt was tagged with the loss, allowing 2 runs (including a home run) on 3 hits. Zach Dingmann started the game, pitching the first four innings; he struck out 4, and allowed 1 run on 4 hits.
Aaron Pfaff led the Red Birds, hitting the game-ending home run in the seventh inning, and a pair of singles as a bonus.
Next up, the Express play at Dassel-Cokato Saints at 7 p.m. Friday, June 10. They host the Luverne Redbirds at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 11, in non-league play. And they play at the Pearl Lake Lakers at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12.

Cold Spring
Saturday afternoon, June 4, the Express played the Cold Spring Rockies, at Lake Henry. The Rockies scored 2 in the first inning, and retained the lead to win, 5-3.
Alex Geislinger hit 2 home runs for the Rockies, one in the first inning, and one in the seventh. Austin Duffner hit a double, and Tyler Geislinger hit a pair of singles.
Brock Humbert earned the win for the Rockies in his 3 innings pitching; he allowed 4 hits, struck out 4 and walked 2. Eli Backes pitched 4 innings, allowing all 3 Express runs on 6 hits, striking out 4 and walking 1.
Craig Meyer was tagged with the loss, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits, striking out 4 and walking 2 during his 6 innings on the mound. Tommy Friesen struck out 2 and allowed 1 run on 1 hit in his 1 inning on the hill.
For the Express, Michael Hoffmann hit a home run in the fourth inning that also brought home Brian Marquardt; he hit a single as well. Cade Marquardt hit a double and a single. Tommy Friesen hit a pair of singles.

New London-Spicer
The Express took on the New London-Spicer Twins Saturday morning, June 4, in Lake Henry. The Twins scored first, but the Express caught up and won the game, 3-1.
Adam Beyer hit a home run to left field in the fourth inning that also plated Tommy Friesen. Cade Marquardt hit a solo home run to far left at the top of the sixth inning. Zach Dingmann hit a double
Matt Dingmann earned the win for the Express, pitching the whole game. He struck out 4 and walked 1 while limiting the Twins to 1 run on 7 hits.
Ben Kulset takes the loss for the Twins, also pitching a full game. He allowed 3 runs (including 2 home runs) on 4 hits, struck out 3 and walked 1.
Kulset hit a double and a pair of singles to lead the Twins at bat.
