School Facilities
As mentioned in last week?Äôs column, the EV-W School District will be hosting a number of public meetings to keep our stakeholders well informed and engaged in the process and progress of our facility project. While I prepare the informative documents and compile school district comparative data from 2016, a few consistent themes become apparent as listed below:
?Ä¢ Total levy for an EV-W student is $2,287, while the State avg. is $3,077
?Ä¢ Net tax capacity for an EV-W student is $5,599, while the State avg. is $7,723
?Ä¢ Estimated school tax on a $150,000 EV-W home is $692, while the State avg. is $608
In summary, these three data points tell us that the EV-W district is prudent in tax levy per pupil, yet the limited tax base of the school-community results in an above avg. tax rate. Simply put, we don?Äôt have a General Mills, Sherco Power Plant or 3M Companies located in our school district absorbing some of the tax burden.
Other important, valuable and rewarding EV-W facts that provide an overview of district operations include:
?Ä¢ EV-W ranks #303 of #331 schools district in pupil funding, $1,750 below State avg.
?Ä¢ EV-W ranks #1 of 10 area school districts in 2016 MCA III District Reading Proficiency
?Ä¢ EV-W ranks #1 of 10 area school districts in 2016 MCA III District Science Proficiency
?Ä¢ EV-W ranks #2 of 10 area school districts in 2016 MCA III District Math Proficiency
Clearly, when considering the aforementioned pupil funding level in comparison to our academic proficiency, it?Äôs safe to say that the EV-W School District does more with less. Our students and staff are producing exceptional results in the classrooms, on the courts, fields and stage. The EV-W school system and student body are essential to this community, and we want you to be well informed and educated as you consider investing in these community assets.
As mentioned in previous articles, the following public informational meetings have been scheduled for

Senior Spotlight
The EV-W School District would like to recognize Carter Geislinger, son of Tracey and Scott. Carter is described as the Eagle super fan and can be found leading the student cheer section at most events. He?Äôs been an active member in Student Council, Choir, Drama, Deca, and competes on the EV-W baseball team. Following high school graduation, Carter plans to attend Bemidji State University to pursue a degree in wildlife biology. The EV-W administration and staff are extremely proud of Carter and his many accomplishments. Congratulations!
