A celebration of life will be held from 1-3 p.m. Monday, April 28, at the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
Joyce Myllykangas was born Oct. 1, 1943, in Kingston to Roy and Lempi (Antti) Myllykangas. She married Stanley Smith on April 29, 1961, in Kingston. Stan and Joyce had started dating on Valentine’s Day in 1959; they were fortunate enough to spend 66 Valentine’s Days together. On April 29, they would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. They raised their five children in the Annandale and South Haven areas. They lived off the shores of Lake Francis for 48 years. Joyce worked at Meeker County Memorial Hospital for 29 years. She enjoyed decorating her home, taking photos, shopping, and growing flowers in the summer. She loved any time she could spend visiting with family and friends. Joyce’s pride and joy was her family. She welcomed the grandkids into her home for many sleepovers, sometimes for weeks at a time. She loved watching them spend time together, taking them to movies and out for supper, and making them meals.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Tammy Steffes, daughter-in-law Kimberlee Smith, brothers Kenny and Harley Myllykangas, and sister Gloria Stiff.
She is survived by her husband Stanley of South Haven; her children Todd Smith of St. Cloud, Terry (and Tom) Smith of Victoria, Troy (and Janice) Smith of South Haven, and Tanya (and Jared) Dahnke of Clearwater. She also is survived by 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
