Maple Lake game – Kimball stats – halftime: Kimball 41, Maple Lake 21
Witte, 2 points, 5 rebounds; Hooper, 21 points, 6 steals, 3 assists; Knaus, 9 points, 3 steals; Mortenson, 17 points, 4 steals, 3 assists; Henkemeyer, 2 points; Schindler, 12 points, 9 rebounds; Arnold, 5 points; Spaulding, 10 points, 15 rebounds; Powell, 4 points.
“We were very rusty to start. By not being able to practice or play the previous two days, it definitely showed in our performance. We hustled and played with a lot of energy, which was great. We did a good job of forcing Maple Lake to turn the ball over. Our problem was we turned it over too much, especially with 18 first-half turnovers. In the second half, we were able to work on some different defenses, which will help us down the road. The games will get a lot more challenging for us as we move into the conference season,” Coach Jay Klein said.
EV-W game – Kimball stats – halftime: EV-W 41, Kimball 25
Witte, 2 points; Hooper, 6 points, 3 rebounds; Knaus, 6 points, 3 rebounds; Mortenson, 11 points; Schindler, 8 points, 4 rebounds; Spaulding, 5 points, 7 rebounds; Powell, 3 points, 4 rebounds.
“We did a much better job of taking care of the basketball, and we were able to get a lot of good shots. The trouble was that we could not put the ball in the basket. EV-W is a very good team, and they were coming off of a big win at BBE the night before. I was happy with how hard we played at times. This was a good game for us in that we saw a number of things we need to work on in order to compete against the top teams,” explained Coach Klein.
