Saturday, Feb. 22, the team travelled to Maple Lake where they won a first place Small-Team trophy. Adrienne Rainer placed third in Creative Expression, with Isiah Allen taking eighth in the same category. In Extemporaneous Reading, Karlee Beehler and Caitlin Carr earned fourth and fifth places, and Erin Diffley took home a seventh-place ribbon in Original Oratory. Holly Dahlinger placed sixth in Serious Drama, and Maicy Vossen placed seventh in Serious Drama and took fifth in her double-entry category Storytelling. Lidiah Zipp earned a seventh-place ribbon in Serious Prose, and Olivia Straley finished off the individual awards with a Champion medal in Storytelling. It was a great showing for the team.
But there would be a cold and windy week ahead of them, with practices cancelled for blizzard conditions. But the speechers came out strong on Saturday, March 1, at Sauk Centre, the first meet with a final round. Kimball had 5 finalists: Maicy Vossen earned eighth place in Serious Drama, and Olivia Straley took second in Storytelling. Caleb Anderson qualified for his first final round of his career and took a Championship medal in Discussion. Holly Dahlinger took top honors in Serious Drama, while eighth-grader Adrienne Rainer, the team?Äôs spelling expert, took first place in Creative Expression. Earning Honorable Mentions were Karlee Beehler in Extemporaneous Reading, Megan Bisila in Informative Speaking, and Erin Diffley in Original Oratory. The team brought home a second-place trophy in the Medium Team division.
This next Saturday, March 8, is the 10th Annual Empress Invitational, held here at Kimball Area High School. Rounds begin at 9 a.m., 10:20 a.m., and 11:40 a.m.,
with the final (championship) rounds beginning approximately at 1:30 p.m. The home meet is a great opportunity for you to show your community support for our local speechers (including EV-W, Maple Lake, Litchfield, Annandale, ROCORI, and Paynesville) and to see some outstanding talent in our young people. Performances are free to the public, and if there is a particular speecher you would like to go watch, ask at the high school office the day of the tournament. We hope to see you Saturday.
