Katherine Tonnell, 93

Katherine Tonnell of St. Cloud (formerly of Watkins) died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, at St. Cloud Hospital. She was 93.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at the Church of St. Anthony in Watkins. Visitation will be from 8:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service, at the church. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Watkins.

Katherine Ellen Mohs was born Sept. 20, 1931, to Nick and Aloysia (Blonigen) Mohs in St. Cloud. Katie graduated from Technical High School in St. Cloud in 1949. She was united in marriage to Richard Tonnell on April 4, 1949, at St. Augustine Church in St. Cloud. They lived in Watkins where Dick owned and operated the Watkins Patriot newspaper for 23 years. In 1980, they moved to Eveleth, then Sauk Rapids and Waite Park before Katie recently moved back to St. Cloud. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, dancing, and playing cards.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband Richard; her parents; children David Tonnell in 1973, Douglas Tonnell in 1988, and Mary Tonnell as an infant; and 12 siblings.

She is survived by her children Diane (and James) Collins of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Vicki (and Thomas) Landwehr of Watkins, Janeen Tonnell of Venice, Fla., Randy (and Mary) Tonnell of St. Augusta, and John “Stitch” Tonnell of St. Cloud; daughter-in-law Shirley Tonnell of St. Augusta; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
