After the poor start, they played Belle Plaine almost even and trailed 50-37 at the half.  In the second half, Belle Plaine’s lead rose to as many as 19 points, but the Cubs kept battling back. The lead was cut to 10 points, but they could not get any closer. Jeff Hunt led the team in scoring with 21, followed by Adam Magnuson’s 17 points. Zak Kuseske led the Cubs on the boards with eight. The Cubs jumped out to a quick lead at 15-4, but BBE fought their way back mid-way through the first half and cut the lead to three. Kimball went on another run to end the half and led 28-14 at intermission. In the second half, defense was again the story as the Cubs pulled away with a 54-34 victory. Kimball had 10 players enter the scoring column, led by Adam Magnuson’s 11 points. Matt Dingmann helped lead the defensive effort by taking three of the five charging calls in the game for the Cubs. It was a great all around team effort. The win puts the Cubs at 2-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The boy’s next two games are Monday, Jan. 8, at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, and Thursday, Jan. 11, at Eden Valley-Watkins. Jan. 8, Howard Lake-Waverly The Cubs traveled to Howard Lake Waverly Winsted to take on a very good Lakers squad.  Kimball played very well in the first half stopping the Lakers fast-break style and beating their full-court press. By halftime Kimball held a 32-21 lead while the Lakers were frustrated. However, in the second half the Lakers turned up their full court pressure which gave the Cubs huge fits. Howard Lake stormed back as a result and took the game over winning by a 66-47 margin. Kimball was lead in scoring by Scott Nystrom with 22 points, Eric Nystrom and Sam Scheeler both played well scoring 9 points each, Andy Dingmann had 3 points and Travis Erickson and Bobby Arens each chipped in 2 points.
