Kimball community ‘cleans up’

·

Despite cloudy skies, a lot of clean up was done in Kimball and the surrounding area Saturday, May 8. Stearns County Environmental Services reported that 82 households took advantage of the household hazardous waste collection. Central Appliance collected 71 unwanted appliances. The dumpster service proved to be invaluable to many people. Many have expressed their hope for this service to be available every year. The two new services – tire and battery collection – provided this year were very successful. A total of 152 tires and 48 car batteries were collected. The only change that will be made for next year will be that, if you plan to get rid of more than five tires, the city office will need to be notified by the Wednesday prior to Clean Up Day. Many people also made use of the clothing drop for the Epilepsy Foundation. The day was a success because of the help of the following volunteers: Sheila Hinkemeyer, Dottie Serbus, Jeremy Jeppesen, DuWayne Orbeck, Karla Davis, Joanne Hendricks and Ryan Bettenberg. Thank you very much for all your hard work. Thank you to the American Legion Auxiliary for making and serving the lunch, and for the donations of food from Schmidty’s Kimball Conoco, Gohmann’s Super Valu, and Knaus Sausage House; their donations provided lunch for all those who worked. Thank you to the Tri-County News for the articles and for the ad they ran one week for free for the Clean Up Day. Also, “Thanks” to all the residents who made use of Clean Up Day. Because of your continued support each year, we are able to provide this service to you. A special “Thank you” to A.M. Maus & Son and Gohmann’s Super Valu for the use of their facilities for the collection site. With all the help of the above people and organizations, the ninth annual Clean Up Day was once again a success. If there are any other services you would like to see added to the Household Hazardous Waste Clean Up Day, please call me at (320) 398-2725 at the Kimball City Hall, from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Thanks again to everyone who helped in any way with the Clean Up Day – it made my job a lot easier. Chris Jeppesen, Clean Up Day Coordinator
