Kimball Golf Club claims it’s more fun to play there because of the layout and beauty of the golf course.
That is sufficient to make golfing at KGC a pleasure for all. But golfers also enjoy creating games within the game of golf.
Beginners can do this by asking each golfer in the group to put up a small sum of money, such as a dollar, with the pot of money going to the golfer who makes the longest putt of the day, or the longest drive, or the first on the green on a specified hole.
Over many years, golfers have created more complex games that participants enjoy within the game of golf.
Bingo, Bango, Bongo!
This is a game of points. The first player in the group to get the ball on the green gets a point (bingo). The player whose ball is closest to the pin once all balls are on the green gets a point (bango). And the player in the group who is first to hole out gets a point (bongo). The player with the most points at the end of the round wins the pot of money.
Skins
This can be done in groups of 2, 3, or 4. Instead of playing the lowest overall score wins, a golfer gets a point for each hole they win. Win a hole and you get 1 point. If the hole is tied, you carry that point to the next hole (which is then worth 2 points). The player with the most skins (points won) by the end of the round is the winner of whatever amount of money the players decide in advance to put in play.
Rabbit
This is a fun and creative game for the whole family to enjoy. The first player to have the lowest score on a hole will capture the Rabbit. On the next hole, if another player gets the lowest score, the Rabbit will go free. The next player to get the lowest score after that will catch the Rabbit, and so on. If there are any ties, nobody will get the Rabbit, and play continues until there is one winner. It’s a competitive but fun game that is sure to be a hit with the family.
Best Ball or Fourball
This is one of the most popular games to play on the golf course. Typically, two-person teams are in play. Each player plays out his or her own golf ball. At the end of the hole, the lowest score recorded by the team is used toward the team tally, while the higher score is thrown out. And the lowest team score wins.
Nassau
Playing a Nassau is the most popular of golf games. A Nassau is broken out into three games: low front-nine score, low back-nine score, and low18-hole score. -Dollar amounts or points are applied to each match. When playing a $5 Nassau, the most you can lose is $15. If you win all three, you win $45 ($15 from the other three players).
Hit it in the water but still made par? You can add “Fishy” dollar winnings to your Nassau.
Knocked it off a tree but still made par? Congratulations, you made a “Barky.”
Chipped in? Well done, you earned a “Chippie.”
Golf is fun on its own, but over 9 or 18 holes and with the same group round after round, there is no shortage of games you can bring to the course the next time you tee it up at Kimball Golf Club.
