Golf Tip of the Week

If you want to knock shots off your game, spend as much time chipping and putting as you can as you are hitting balls on the driving range.

Think of when you go to the practice range to work on your golf game. What club do you use when you first start practicing? A Driver?  That is usually the club of choice.

But think about this; Sixty percent of your shots are within 60 yards of the hole each round of golf. What does this tell you about where you need to spend your practice time?

When you practice shots from this distance (60 yards and closer), you become adept at not only hitting these shots, but making them.

Use your practice time 90 percent on your short game (chipping & putting) and 10 percent with your swing on the driving range.

Your score will improve and you will enjoy the game more.

Golf Club Leadership

At the Annual Meeting of
Kimball Golf Club, Leo Wirth was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Directors, along with Gene South and Bob Vossen, who were re-elected to three-year terms on the nine-member Board.

Leo Wirth returns to service on the Board of Directors after serving in the past for a total of 39 years, beginning with his service as one of the founders when the golf course was developed in 1967.

How did a beautiful golf course serving this tri-county area emerge in Kimball?

More on this next week.

What is a golfing ?ÄúScramble?Äù?

In golf, a scramble is team play, usually with four players on a team playing together. Each team?Äôs players hit from the teebox. Then the team members choose the best of the four shots for the next shot. All team members then play the second shot from that location, and again choose the best shot. Play continues in this manner until the hole is completed. The team then records its score and maintains that format for all 18 holes.

Most league play at Kimball Golf Club and most charity events and company sponsored events are played in a scramble format because this invites players of all skills (and no skills) to enjoy the game of golf.
