May 1: National Day of Prayer

St. John?Äôs Lutheran Church in Kimball will have their doors open for prayer from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All are welcome to come.

Thursday, May 1, Anyone can come and spend time in the Lord?Äôs house in silent prayer. Come and go when you choose.

If you can?Äôt come to church, take time out of your day to pray on May 1, for our country and other concerns in your heart.

History of National Day of Prayer

In 1775, the Continental Congress allocated a time for prayer in forming a new nation. Over the years, there have been calls for a day of prayer, including President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. 

April 17, 1952, President Harry Truman signed a Bill proclaiming the National Day of Prayer into law in the United States. President Reagan amended the law in 1988, designating the first Thursday of May each year as the National Day of prayer.

?ÄúDo not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hears and your minds in Christ Jesus.?Äù Philippians 4:6-7.
