KTB takes second

·

April 7, Glencoe would supply the pine for the tournament. The first game, a Duluth team – the Bears, had us down 23-20 at the half. The Bears had done a good job of going inside, and with 90 percent at the line, they were a very efficient team to beat. The second half, we would have to seal the lanes and continue a sound offensive attack. Erik Nystrom started the air attack with two threes. Karl Hunt pulled the trigger, hitting three threes, almost consecutively down the court. Logan Looman pulled up his sleeves, hitting a couple jumpers, then a three, then pounding them inside. KTB outscored the Bears 31-17. As beautiful as our offense was, our defense had provided for our offensive effort with great ball pressure and adjusting to the Bears inside play with much improved rebounding. KTB wins 51 to Bears 40. High scorers: Logan Looman 19, Erik Nystrom 12 and Karl Hunt 9.  Second game was against Osseo, who had great size. They were much larger than most of the team we faced all year long. As in the first game, KTB would be playing with only seven players, missing Scott Nystrom from the line up. Osseo came out and immediately fed it inside, finding success in the paint. Zak Kuseske and Logan Looman hit some nice shots, but KTB would come up short. KTB 20 to Osseo’s 29 at the half. The second half, KTB would have to play more physical, with only one shooting foul against us the first half. Our guys had to become more aggressive. Zak Kuseske, Sam Scheeler and Scott Stenger answered that call with some great effort down under the basket with some good stops. Eleven of our 17 second-half points came from sound free throw shooting. We were able to stay very competitive with Osseo’s 22 points for the half. KTB 37 to Osseo’s 51. High scorers: Logan Looman 11, Zak Kuseske 8 and Erik Nystrom 6. The third game: Rochester would be no match for KTB’s marksmanship. As all eight players hit shots, and worked together like a Rolex watch. The first half was KTB with 43 to Rochester’s 22 points. The second half, Rochester came out still stunned until one of their players started to hit 3-pointers, which we adjusted to very well, stopping his effort. KTB would go home with second place honors, beating Rochester 67-50. Scorers for KTB: Karl Hunt 16, Scott Nystrom 16, Logan Looman 14, Sam Scheeler 6, Erik Nystrom 6, Scott Stenger 4, Zak Kuseske 3 and Andy Dingmann 2. KTB’s record is now five wins and one loss. Keep up the great job! Coach Brad Looman
