Marie Roeser of Watkins died Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins. She was 94.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service beginning at 4 p.m., at Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins, and will continue before the service Tuesday morning.
Marie A. Schreifels was born March 16, 1923, in rural Cold Spring to Theodore and Ottilia (Krier) Schreifels. She married Jerome Roeser Nov. 14, 1944. Marie and Jerome farmed near Watkins where they raised nine children. In 1977 they sold the farm and butcher shop and moved to Watkins. At home, Marie spent her time decorating, gardening, and serving her favorite meals to family and friends. Homemade bread, liver sausage, marshmallow pie; she was known for her fabulous cooking. Quilting, macram?©, and flower-arranging were among her many hobbies. Marie loved playing Solo with friends, and Rummy with family. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and while decorating the tree each year, her motto was, “If there is room for more, put it on.” Marie was a devout Catholic, and a wonderful mother and grandmother. Many are fortunate to have shared memories with her.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Jerome, parents, son Quentin, grandson Philip Ludwig; brothers Ted Schreifels and Father Ferdinand Schreifels; sisters Matilda Huberty, Theresa Menke, Rose Kraemer, Marcella Schreifels, Clara Huberty, Barbara Nistler, and Rita Ludwig.
She is survived by her children Sandy (and Peter) Merten of Kimball, Carol (and Dick) Faber of Watkins, Peter (and Rosie) Roeser of Walker, Jerry (and Sheila) Roeser of Watkins, Mary Kay (and Vern) Becker of Eden Valley, Teresa (and Paul) Lahr of Dassel, Margaret (and Michael Ludwig of Northfield, and Susan (and Keith) Hiltner of St. Cloud; 24 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Ramona Hokanson.
