McLeod County Gardening Education Day April 13

Attention all gardening enthusiasts. The McLeod County Extension Master Gardeners’ 2019 Annual Gardening Education Day will be Saturday, April 13 at the Crow River Golf Club, Hutchinson. Come join the McLeod County Extension Master Gardeners for a day of great speakers, gardening education, vendors, door prizes and much more. Registration is from 8-8:45 a.m. with speakers and activities to follow until 3 p.m. Remember to bring a cash donation for “Hunger Free McLeod” to receive a free gift.

This Gardening Education day features four outstanding speakers including:

• “What’s New, What’s Hot, and What Works?” presented by Jayne Roberts, Perennial Specialist and Sales Representative for Walters Gardens, Inc.

• “The Benefits of Native Grasses” presented by Mary H. Meyer, PH. D., Professor and Extension Horticulturist with the University of Minnesota

• “Tree Planting: A New Look at an Old Practice” presented by John Ball, PH.D., Professor and Forestry Specialist at South Dakota State University

• “Aquaponics, Alternative Gardening Methods and Soil Health” presented by Dean Engelmann, Tangletown Garden Center, Wise Acre Eatery and Tangletown Gardens Farm

The University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardener program is a volunteer program that shares gardening best practices in local communities to promote healthy landscapes, healthy foods and healthy lives. Master Gardeners complete a university – taught core course and contribute a certain number of hours teaching research-based horticulture practices in their communities.

Registration is $30 if received by April 1; $35 after April 1. Space is limited. Please pre-register by April 5 at the McLeod County Extension office.
