Wally Moorhouse asked to run for Stearns County, MN Commissioner, District 3
Wally Moorhouse, a businessman and resident of Stearns County for more than 42 years, living on Browns Lake, has witnessed the reckless polluting of our waterways. He believes our elected officials have not adequately cared for our waterways and lakes.
When Incumbent Jeff Mergen withdrew from re-election, Moorhouse was approached by local farmers, landowners, lake associations, and residents, and asked to enter the race for the position of District 3 County Commissioner. Wally as a businessman has the skills, compassion, and vested interest to be an effective Commissioner of District 3; he has accepted the community’s draft and is running for the seat and seeking your vote on Tuesday, Aug. 9.
The new district restructuring changed the boundaries extending from Paynesville Township to the cities of Clearwater and St. Augusta, and reaching from Collegeville Twp. to the Meeker and Wright County lines, making Moorhouse eligible to occupy the seat.
Moorhouse is not a newcomer to community and civic commitments. He has worked with county residents in forming an ad-hoc planning group that worked towards drafting a waterways restoration plan. The group believed this was necessary because of the disappointing management of and progress made by the Minnesota PCA, Minnesota Environmental Services, Stearns County Watershed, the MN Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR), County Planning Board, and County Commissioners commissioned to conserve and protect our watersheds, streams, and lakes against pollution, which they have failed to do.
Moorhouse states his total platform is to clean up the political mess and our waters. He recognizes that this will require your help and support, and he will work to unite the community, land-
owners, and farmers; divided, we fail, united we can achieve what we all strive for, a government that is focused and effective in helping “Cleaning Up Our Waterways.”
How do we get started?
Know that there are many “Shovel-ready” environment restoration projects spec’d out for Stearns County that will help us achieve our goal: Pollution-free lakes and waters. Always the central question is, where is the money to fund them? Thanks to our research team, we have identified over:
• $20 million in government grants and loans earmarked to finance these environment restoration projects.
• $11 million in Federal allocations has been awarded to Minnesota to fix runoffs and pollution.
• $11 million in grants are available from the Clean Water Fund and,
• $8 million in loans from the local government will be available in FY 2023 which begins July 1.
The Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) issued a letter to the counties June 28, 2022, to apply to fund their projects.
Do you believe our Stearns County agencies have applied for these funds? If our elected officials and appointed agencies were doing their job, our waterways, streams, and lakes would not be in the shape they are.
If you give me your vote, I promise to work without reservation to see that our waterways are “Cleaned Up.” Please call me to discuss my plan further. I will not disappoint you!
