The state of Minnesota was hit with more severe weather on Friday night. A tornado was reported in Wadena County southwest of Menahga. Thankfully, no damage was reported from this tornado.

Large hail and damaging winds were another issue from this storm. Large hail was reported in Otter Tail County, Wadena County, Pennington County, and Polk County.

A peak wind gust of 88 mph was reported near East Grand Forks. Trees were topped near Brainerd, East Grand Forks, Park Rapids, Detroit Lakes, Mahnomen, Walker, Wheaton, and Fergus Falls.

Another tragic part of this storm was heavy rain and flooding. In Randall, eight inches of rain fell over two days. This caused mass flooding in the city and the roads in and out of the city had to be closed for a time. Some 30 residents reportedly had to be evacuated due to the flooding.

It will be warm on Wednesday with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will also be windy midweek as the winds could gust to 30 mph or more. Drier weather should return by Friday and into the weekend.

This has been quite a year for extreme weather events this spring and early summer. Of course, we have a lot of summer left.

Please stay alert to changing weather conditions.

Weather history: On this date in 1930, records show that “extreme heat develops in Minnesota.” For example, Canby hit a “sizzling 110 degrees!”

Weather facts: Did you know women have more sweat glands than men, but men sweat more than woman? The more you sweat in extreme heat, “the more easily you can become dehydrated.”
