At 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 25, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an unknown individual entering an occupied residence in the 27600 block of MN Highway 24 in Darwin Township. The person left before deputies arrived but was located at the intersection of MN Hwy 24 and 285th St. Once stopped, the person gave the name of another individual but was identified to be Dustin Nelson, 37 of rural Litchfield.
While talking with the Deputy, Nelson jumped on his scooter and drove away. Deputies followed as Nelson drove to his residence. Once at his residence, he jumped off his scooter and ran inside. Deputies watched the residence while a determination to serve a search warrant was discussed.
Deputies saw Nelson then leave his residence in a pickup truck. Deputies initiated a traffic stop but Nelson fled. Nelson refused to stop, and he continued to a rural residence in Darwin Township. At this residence, he ran from his truck and jumped into another vehicle and tried to flee again. A deputy was able to deploy a Taser while Nelson was in the driver’s seat before he could drive away. Nelson continued to resist arrest and was physically taken into custody.
During the altercation, a deputy discharged their service weapon. No one was struck by this discharge. Nelson was taken into custody without further incident. Nelson was booked into the Meeker County Jail for multiple charges including fleeing an officer. He is expected to make an initial court appearance Tuesday, July 27.
The weapon discharge is being investigated by an outside agency. No injuries were reported during this incident.
