School Board Candidate: Matthew Serbus

·

Matthew Serbus defined a successful board members as a good listener and positive decision maker. “[I would say they are] someone who listens to all sides of an issue before making a decision and always considers the children’s education first and foremost.” He graduated from KAHS in 1996 and is living in Kimball. He is getting married next year and plans on making his home in Kimball. “I am buying the house I am currently living in,” Serbus said. Living in Kimball, Serbus said he wants to serve on the school board so he can give back to the community. “I want to contribute to my community and I felt that the best way for me is the school board.” He chose to run for the four-year position as it would give him time to make a bigger impact. “I would like to work on anything that might improve learning conditions.” Serbus said that the current board is not doing anything wrong, but there is always room for improvement. His goal, if elected, is to be a representative that conveys the thoughts and feelings of those in the district. “[I want] to learn how to best represent the people of Kimball and do the best job I can.” Growing up in the community, Serbus said his favorite thing about it is the friendly people. His pervious work experience includes working at Powder Ridge and Jacobs Concrete while attending KAHS. Throughout college, Serbus worked at DiversiCom Melrose Telephone Company. He was offered a position with the company after college. Serbus doesn’t have any children in the school district, but his three nephews attend school in Kimball. He said he is pretty satisfied with the school system. “Nothing I can think of needs to be changed, but improvement is always possible.”
